These photos show GRCC student Nick Aslanian practicing for the Hotelympia Culinary Competition. Nick is a senior member of GRCC’s team which will be competing next week in London.
Other team members include Desirae Visser, Kirsten Weber, Derek Warren, Steven Couch, Wes Zemla and Coach Sasha Ahmed who led the team to 1st at the Boyne Challenge last year and she took first place in Scotland at the Scot Hot in 2009. Go Raiders!
Student Support Services (TRiO) was honored to have our Peer Mentors invited to present to the Annual MI-CAPP Student Leadership Summit. The Michigan College Access Programs and Personnel organization represents Michigan TRiO programs.
The Peer Mentors (Sarah Ryder, Myriah Williams and Travis Slooter) introduced the game of “Life- College Edition” to Upward Bound high school students. The objective was to expose the students to various situations involved in college life. Sarah Ryder also accepted the “Academic Achievement Award” which is also a $500 scholarship. She maintains a 3.95 GPA while raising two children and working two part time jobs!
$1 beer? Grand Rapids Griffins fans mixed on Friday promotion

Jeff Stubblefield has a beer in each hand, just like his two buddies, and a hot dog on top of a trash can that maybe he’ll eat later. The 22-year-old college student has about two hours to down as much as he can, and we’re not talking about the hot dogs. Faculty are encouraged to remind their students that GRCC has a regular Alcoholics Anonymous meeting on campus in the Farside Room of the Student Center every Thursday from 12-1 for those that may need support.
