Learning Opportunity for Staff – Institute for Healing Racism (10/4/12-10/5/12)
The Bob and Aleicia Woodrick Diversity Learning Center through its Diversity Development Services provides tools that help promote a greater and deeper understanding of others, their cultures and requirements. Businesses, educational and health care institutions, governmental agencies and non-profit organizations benefit from an informed employee base able to consider multiple perspectives and address conflicts with conscious intentional process.

THIS IS A TWO-PART COURSE: The Institute for Healing Racism is a powerful and thought provoking venue that brings together diverse groups of people to explore and address issues of race and racism. Participants have the opportunity to examine how the “dis-ease” of racism affects all people and develop skills to detect institutional racism in our daily environments (i.e. home, workplace, community, organization and business)
Learning Objectives: Learners will:
- gain factual information about the origins of race and racism
- increase their critical thinking skills in regards to issues involving race and racism
- expand their knowledge of the concept of institutionalized racism
- brainstorm strategies on anti-racism
