Grand Rapids Community College women thump Ancilla to clinch share of division title

GRAND RAPIDS — For the fourth time in five seasons, the Grand Rapids Community College women’s basketball team will share the Michigan Community College Athletic Association Western Division title.  The Raiders capped their regular season Wednesday night with a 70-45 victory against Ancilla College at Ford Fieldhouse.  (More)

Holland, MI —  The Castalia Chamber Ensemble takes the stage at Herrick District Library’s Concert Series at 3 p.m. Sunday. The Grand Rapids-based ensemble includes pianist Mary Scanlan, violinist Jennifer Walvoord, violist Leslie Van Becker and cellist Alicia Steggink Eppinga. The concert takes place at the library, 300 S. River Ave. […] Scanlan received her doctorate in piano pedagogy from the University of Illinois and degrees in piano performance from the University of Wisconsin and the University of Iowa. In 1988 she began teaching piano, music history, and served as keyboard department chair at Grand Rapids Community College in Grand Rapids. (More)

iPhone users can more easily access GRCC information with newly released free app: GRCC Mobile

In keeping with its commitment to using cutting edge technology, Grand Rapids Community College announced last week the release of a free iPhone app called GRCC Mobile so that students can more easily tap into the latest college information.  Anyone with an iPhone can access up-to-the-minute updates on such things as classroom information posted on Blackboard websites, faculty absences, maps and directions to entranceways of more than a dozen college facilities, and, in the near future, the availability of parking spaces at the college’s downtown area’s five parking areas, says Derek DeVries, GRCC Communications Technology Manager.  (More)

GRCC partners with Holland’s Energetx Composites to offer on-site training in the manufacturing comp

Grand Rapids Community College and Holland’s Energetx Composites are uniting efforts to train students in the making of composites by introduction of an intense college four-week class starting March 8.  Two-thirds of the 80-hour intensive program will be hands-on lab training on the shop floor at Energetx, the first time school officials say GRCC has used a manufacturing facility as a classroom.  (More)
