Nearly 650 8th-grade students from middle schools throughout West Michigan attended GRCC’s 11th Annual Latino Youth Conference Tuesday, March 2 at the GRCC Gerald R. Ford Fieldhouse. The conference’s theme was “El Poder de Soñar/The Power of Dreams.” Students attended workshops facilitated by local leaders on topics including education, youth leadership, career preparation and self-esteem.

Transcultural Nursing Students Educate North End Community Ministry Clients
On March 2,2010 GRCC AD258 Transcultural Nursing Students at the NECM Food Pantry presented the first Food Tasting and Recipe Sampling featuring “Diabetes Superfoods” for North End Community Ministry Clients in the Nutritional Options for Wellness Program at NECM Food Pantry. GRCC nursing students researched recipes meeting criteria from the American Diabetes Association and American Heart Association made with ingredients/food commodities commonly found at Food Pantries.
Food Pantry customers enjoyed Red Beans & Rice, Vegetarian Chili, Black Bean Salsa, Minestrone soup, Vegetable Soup and Maple Glazed Sweet Potatoes. Students provided recipes, nutrition education and Blood Pressure Screening. The event was a great success. Congratulations to the three Nursing Students who prepared the Food Tasting Recipe Sampling and served the nutritional needs of their community during spring break.

GRAND RAPIDS — Grand Rapids Community College’s Brandon Newburn made his first 3-point shot of the season Tuesday night in the Raiders’ Michigan Community College Athletic Association District 8 tournament basketball game against Jackson Community College.
