You’ll find busses along side of boats in a space that Energetx Composites [now Grand Rapids Community College partner] shares with its parent company, S2 Yachts in Holland.  The Slikkers family, owners of the S2 and Tiara yacht companies, created Energetx to diversify into emerging markets such as wind power, defense and mass transportation.  Kelly Slikkers gives a guided tour of how Energetx serves those industries.  (More)

Grand Rapids Community College men suffer worst loss of season in NJCAA tourney opener

Ever since Lynsey Roumell and her Style Junkie blog moved on to the Windy City, we’ve been hungry for coverage of fashion goings-on in the Grand Rapids area.  Meet our new fasion team (yes, Lynsey, we needed five people to replace you!)  […] Raven Jones I spent a year at the Fashion Institute of Technology, where I studied Accessories Design and wrote for its newspaper W27. While in New York I also volunteered at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week and experienced first-hand the beautiful chaos that is fashion.  I study Fashion Design and Merchandising at Grand Rapids Community College while also studying independently to keep an open mind.  (More)

West Michigan schools make plans to train workers for expanding battery industry

GRAND RAPIDS — As a third battery company moves closer to announcing plans to open along the Lakeshore, educators are gearing up to train workers for this expanding industry.  […] “We have a lot of people with manufacturing experience, but not many that have ‘clean room’ experience. The lithium-ion battery environment is truly a ‘clean room’ environment,” said Dan Clark, dean of Grand Rapids Community College‘s Lakeshore campus and academic outreach.  (More)

Global Experience Festival (3/26/10)

Next Friday, March 26 from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. will be the 11th Annual Global Experience Festival.  The event is a food and talent show, sponsored by GRCC’s International, Hispanic, and African Student Organizations, highlighting food and entertainment from around the world.  This year’s food is representing Africa, Asia, France, and Haiti!

Tickets are only $5 and are now available at the Student Life Office. Tickets will be available at the door.  For more information, visit the Facebook page for the event.
