Striking season for Ionia’s Burrows

Family of homeless woman killed in 1991 thrilled police say case is solved

GRAND RAPIDS — Ruth Wilson always thought police would solve the 1991 brutal slaying of her aunt, 77-year-old Muriel Stoepker, a woman locals knew as the “bag lady.”  […] State police today said evolving DNA technology, allowing them to successfully test smaller crime samples, helped them link Stoepker’s killing near a Grand Rapids Community College parking ramp to a man already on death row for a Texas murder.  (More)
