Deb Nordman, and Amanda Brand hosted the Radiologic Technology Program pinning ceremony on April,28 2010.  This was the first class to be awarded an I.V. start curriculum certification, as well as an Academic Service Learning Certificate.  The ceremony began with a warm welcome from President Ender, and featured guest speakers Sylvia Huitsing (Metro Health), and the Honorable George Heartwell Mayor of the city of Grand Rapids.  Congratulations to the 2010 graduates! Grand Rapids Community College President, Dr. Steven Ender, and key members of his staff met with community leaders in Cedar Springs at an informal breakfast meeting on April 23. Enders said, “This is the 8th or 9th meeting we have held since I became president. We are meeting with local school districts, business and community leaders to find out what their questions and concerns are about GRCC so we can learn how to best support them with our programs.” It will take two years to do the 20 districts in the county. Harding grad eyes spot with Ravens: Reggie Smith will miss college graduation to attend rookie camp.

Former Harding High School football star Reggie Smith will miss his graduation ceremonies May 8 at Elizabeth City State University in North Carolina.  He has a good excuse.  Smith will be in rookie camp, trying to land a job with the NFL’s Baltimore Ravens. […] Smith played quarterback in high school, leading Harding to the state championship game as a senior. Haley Stehouwer helps fledgling Davenport University softball team find success

Lessac voice training workshop on tap

A certified master teacher from the Lessac Research and Training Institute will teach an Introduction to Lessac Voice and Body Training Workshop, 1-9 p.m. May 14 and 9 a.m.-6 p.m. May 15.  The two-day workshop, co-sponsored by Grand Rapids Community College and Grand Rapids Civic Theatre, is designed for anyone who wants a warm, rich voice that will attract attention.   (More)

Commencement marks the start of the summer project season.  These are some of the projects GRCC’s Facilities staff are gearing up for, which will start May 3rd:

              27th Annual Mike Flanagan Golf Outing Raffle Tix Available 4/30/10

              Tickets for the 27th Annual Mike Flanagan Golf Outing Raffle will be available beginning Friday, April 30, 2010.  The prizes include:

              Congrats to Cornelius (Corky) Eringaard, 2010 Emeritus Award Recipient (Reception Today)

              Congratulations to Cornelius “Corky” Eringaard on his receipt of the 2010 Emeritus Faculty/Administrator Award.  Corky receives this award for his outstanding leadership and contribution to GRCC, from 1975 through 1993, as the Administrative Assistant to the President and the Executive Vice President of Academic Affairs. His love for the College was always demonstrated through diligent work with faculty and staff to improve and add new programs during the College’s transition years from GRPS to GRJC.

              Employees are welcome to stop by the ATC today between the hours of 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. (Banquet to congratulate Corky at the annual Golden Raiders Retiree Reception).  Catch up with some friends in light food and conversation while experiencing a short program from 2:00 – 2:30 p.m.

              “Basics of Blackboard” Training for Students

              The ATC Computer Lab staff will be offering “Basics of Blackboard” orientation sessions for new and returning summer students.   These sessions will cover:

              • How to login
              • Overview of  Blackboard tabs/interface
              • The main navigation controls for a class
              • Additional support options

              They will offer the orientations Monday (5/3), Tuesday (5/4), and Wednesday (5/5) afternoons from 12:30 to 1:30 pm and Monday (5/3) thru Thursday (5/6) evenings from 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm.   The sessions will take place in rm 219 ATC.
