On April 17, 2010, 120 GRCC students, employees, and community members braved the cold and blustery weather on Saturday with the Academic Service Learning Center for a Community Clean-Up in honor of Earth Day. GRCC Music Students Earn Full Ride Scholarships
Antonina Chekhovskaya and E. Breysien Beer (sophomore music majors at GRCC) have received full ride scholarships to major universities. Antonina, a voice major, will be attending the University of Michigan and Brysien, a violin and voice major will attend the University of Illinois. Congratulations!

Last Friday night the Ford Fieldhouse filled with individuals, teams and clubs for the annual Student Awards Banquet. The atmosphere was exciting, the floral arrangements were long-stemmed and lovely and the food was fantastic.
Awards went to top achievers in everything from club events to research, geography to music, sports and all-around excellence. Margo Anderson, Board of Trustees Chairperson and Dr. Ender were busy for almost two hours handing out awards, plaques, handshakes and hugs. Student Congress members and department heads and faculty all joined in the program.

Rams softball earns split with Grandville

A lot of great softball was played last Thursday at Grandville High School as two of the OK Red’s best teams battled to a split of a doubleheader as conference play got under way. The dates were chosen to create a “Month to Celebrate Dining Out”. The timing for Grand Rapids Restaurant Week occurs within the same month as the Grand Rapids International Wine and Food Festival to take place November 18 – 20 and follows the popular Art Prize Event to be held in Grand Rapids from September 22 – October 10. GRAND RAPIDS — Maureen Downer is seeing signs the recession is waning. “For a while there, we would see 500 people a day in our service centers, even as many as 900 a day,” said the programs manager for Michigan Works! in Kent and Allegan counties. “It’s really not at that higher level anymore.” […] To get a skilled workforce in place, the company collaborated with Grand Rapids Community College and Ottawa County Michigan Works! on a three-year, $547,000 training program for up to 280 new workers. Sara Dorer, Associate Director of Student Conduct and Student Satisfaction Initiatives, and her husband Jeff welcomed Eloise Grace into their family on April 14 at 7:10 p.m. She weighted 6 lb 15 oz. Big sister, Kaylin is enjoying her little sister.
Reminder: Dial-Up ISP Modem Pool Retires 5/2/10
The server that has provided Dial-up Internet access to GRCC Staff and Students who lived locally to Grand Rapids is being retired. After reviewing the usage and economical impact, GRCC has determined that it is no longer feasible to maintain the “Modem Pool Server.” As of May 2nd, 2010, the server will be taken offline.
