GRCC students complete project for Equest Center

GRAND RAPIDS – Grand Rapids Community College and Equest Center for Therapeutic Riding are preparing to showcase the completion of a renovated home for the Equest caretaker and refurbished barns that will accommodate nine new therapeutic horses, all of which increases the capacity of Equest to serve more special needs riders who are currently on the waiting list.  The event will take place Weds., June 2 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the center, 3711 Rector NE in Rockford.  (More)

GRCC students expand program for therapeutic horse-riding

Holland, MI —  The Equest Center for Therapeutic Riding will open new buildings and barns that will accommodate nine new therapeutic horses, increasing the capacity of Equest to serve more special needs riders.  The buildings — which were built with the help of GRCC students — will be showcased at a Wednesday, June 2 event from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the center, 3711 Rector NE in Rockford.  A ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place at 11:30 a.m. The partnership was begun by the Grand Rapids Community College Academic Service Learning Center and Equest close to one year ago.   (More)

Shamrocks set to shine at next level – Five East Detroit football players ready for college competition

EASTPOINTE — The banner in the background said it all, “We’re proud of you!” The words hanging in the gym were meant for a group of Eastpointe East Detroit football players who, following a banner season, will continue their playing careers in college this fall. […] Rounding out the group are Garrett McKay, Dantrell Barksdale and Scott Cross — who will all head off to Grand Rapids Community College together. GRCC, the only junior college in the state with a football program, was taken over by coach Tony Annese last year, who previously led Muskegon High to the 2004, 2006 and 2008 Division 2 state titles.  (More)

Financial Aid Office Hours Changing

Due to unprecedented demand, the Financial Aid office is changing its hours beginning June 7, 2010 in addition to closing  June 1 – 4 to complete and process applications and awards.   The new service hours beginning June 7, 2010 are:

  • Monday – Thursday: 10:00am – 5:00pm
  • Friday’s: Phone Service Only 8:00am – 12:00pm
  • Closed at NOON

GRCC to provide Haworth, JCI employees with training

Holland, MI —  Haworth and Johnson Controls Inc. are the latest companies to sign up for state-paid training through Grand Rapids Community College and the Michigan New Jobs program.  Haworth will pay $2.1 million, and Johnson Controls Inc. will pay $2 million to GRCC to provide the training. The companies will be repaid over several years, as the state diverts the income tax of the new employees back to GRCC, who will use it to reimburse the companies.   (More)

Energy Play: Muskegon Community College generates power ed strategies

MUSKEGON — As more money and effort gets funneled into green energy and sustainable technology, Muskegon Community College sees an opportunity to provide a valuable service to the local workforce. […] While the conversations are too preliminary to confirm any definite programs, Nesbary said MCC is talking to Grand Rapids Community College and other colleges to develop a cohesive program that incorporates the specialties of each school into a collaborative offering.  “We haven’t finished the relationship yet, but we have the solar, the wind and the maritime courses” while other schools, like GRCC have programs in utility scale turbines, Nesbary said. “And the water’s here and they’re (inland). There are ways to collaborate and we’re working that out now.”  (More)

Employee Entrance of Lyon St. Ramp Closed 5/26/10

Starting Wednesday morning 5/26, the Faculty/staff entrance to the Lyon St. Ramp will be closed. The lower levels of the ramp will be closed Wednesday, Thru Monday for repairs. The lower entrance will re-open Tuesday morning.  The entrance to the upper floors of the Lyon ramp will be off from Bostwick (Student entrance).  Please pull a ticket to enter and sign the back of the ticket to leave.
