Predictions for ‘Lost’ finale: After six season, 120-plus cliffhangers, discussion will continue

The piece of cardboard in front of the house on Lyon Street, near the campus of Grand Rapids Community College, contained a curious proposition: Come in on Tuesdays and talk about “Lost.” I took the sign up on its offer last week. After all, there was much to discuss. “Lost” ends its run on ABC tonight with a 4 1/2-hour send-off bonanza. A sensation upon its debut in 2004, the series has followed the survivors of a plane crash on a mysterious island in the South Pacific. Six seasons and some 120 cliffhanger endings later, many of us are just as confused as we were when we initially fell into this rabbit hole. (More)

Sue Stauffacher is amazingly calm, considering she’s about to put on a press conference that includes Grand Rapids third-graders and a live alligator and who knows if anybody will show up in the pouring rain. […] They have two sons. Max, 19, attends Grand Rapids Community College. Walter, 17, is a junior at City High. GRCC is now one of 130 community colleges in the U.S. teaming up to, as they put it, closing achievement gaps and increasing retention. What does that mean? Brian Bowne is Associate Vice President of College Advancement, he tells me the college now has an expectation to move toward data driven decision making. “Directly impacting the student services that we provide so that students who enter GRCC successfully transfer on, successfully graduate from the college so that we’re driving student success retention and graduation rates.” (More)
