GRCC students complete project for Equest Center

GRAND RAPIDS – Grand Rapids Community College and Equest Center for Therapeutic Riding are preparing to showcase the completion of a renovated home for the Equest caretaker and refurbished barns that will accommodate nine new therapeutic horses, all of which increases the capacity of Equest to serve more special needs riders who are currently on the waiting list. The event will take place Weds., June 2 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the center, 3711 Rector NE in Rockford. (More)

Holland, MI — The Equest Center for Therapeutic Riding will open new buildings and barns that will accommodate nine new therapeutic horses, increasing the capacity of Equest to serve more special needs riders. The buildings — which were built with the help of GRCC students — will be showcased at a Wednesday, June 2 event from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the center, 3711 Rector NE in Rockford. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place at 11:30 a.m. The partnership was begun by the Grand Rapids Community College Academic Service Learning Center and Equest close to one year ago. (More)

EASTPOINTE — The banner in the background said it all, “We’re proud of you!” The words hanging in the gym were meant for a group of Eastpointe East Detroit football players who, following a banner season, will continue their playing careers in college this fall. […] Rounding out the group are Garrett McKay, Dantrell Barksdale and Scott Cross — who will all head off to Grand Rapids Community College together. GRCC, the only junior college in the state with a football program, was taken over by coach Tony Annese last year, who previously led Muskegon High to the 2004, 2006 and 2008 Division 2 state titles.
