Peace Studies Conference Registration now Open

Registration for GRCC’s second annual Peace Studies Conference is now available at .  The Peace Studies Conference, which runs September 27-29, 2010 will include experts from around the world who will share their research and expertise related to international cooperation and crises, globalization, oppression, colonialism, violent and nonviolent resistance, human rights, and the creation of sustainable peace.

GRCC Website Brainstorm Meetings

Your input on the GRCC Website is needed. Several meetings will be held in the Student Center Multipurpase room today, Aug. 12, Monday Aug. 16, and Thursday Aug. 19.  Stop in anytime during one of these meetings armed with the top three things you need to do for you and the people you reach on a daily basis.

It takes careful scheduling to maximize opportunities for higher education these days. Missing even one step can be costly.  Wise students approach college with credits in hand: Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, dual enrollment programs and College-Level Examination Program tests allow them to earn credits or even skip entry-level college classes.  “Take as many college prep courses as (your) schedule will allow,” said Jeff Hartman, associate director of admissions at Grand Rapids Community College.   (More)

Remodel of former Davenport Grand Rapids campus brings innovative classrooms to GRCC students

Grand Rapids Community College didn’t have much opportunity to renovate any of the former downtown Grand Rapids campus of Davenport University before students occupied some of the classrooms last year. GRCC teams with Farmers Insurance to coordinate training for almost 1,600 new workers in Caledonia

Grand Rapids Community College has partnered with Farmers Insurance Group to help with the coordination and training of almost 1,600 new workers the insurance company will need over the next four or five years to staff its growing Caledonia Township site.  The $5 million three-year investment in new-jobs training was approved by GRCC trustees last month. Farmers Spokeswoman Renee Kolzow says the first wave of hiring will begin in the first quarter of 2011 after the positions are posted on the company’s website. The new jobs will offer a minimum annual salary around $26,500 with benefits, Kolzow says, adding that pay could be higher based on the position and the applicant’s education and experience.   (More)

Sweeney Adds GRCC’s Jackson Davison to Men’s Golf Roster

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Head men’s golf coach Phil Sweeney would like to announce the signing of junior college transfer Jackson Davison from Grand Rapids Community College.  Davison will join the Panthers as they look to make it back to the NAIA National Tournament next spring.  Jackson Davison comes to Davenport from Grand Rapids Community College where he had two stellar years for the Raiders.  Jackson was named to the MCCAA All-Conference team as well as the NJCAA D2 All-Region team.  (More)
