Holland, MI –  A stalled economy and fewer entry level jobs may be driving more young adults to college. Nationwide, the popularity of community colleges is on the rise. The percentage of full-time students attending two-year institutions jumped from 24 to 26 percent from 2007 to 2008, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. […]  17,806 GRCC students.  GRCC counted 17,806 students as doors opened on Monday, said Diane Patrick, the college’s interim registrar. “I think the state of the state and local economy is a reason people are turning to community college,” she said. “It’s a great opportunity.”  (More)

Muskegon Community College to rent textbooks

MUSKEGON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZZM)- Grand Rapids Community College and Aquinas College in Grand Rapids also offer students the opportunity to rent instead of purchase.   Some college bookstores are trying to compete with websites offering college students the option to rent textbooks instead of purchasing them.   (More)

GRCC composites class seeking workers

HOLLAND –  If you’re looking for a job in a fast-growing industry with good pay and benefits, Grand Rapids Community College may have a place for you.  The college is looking for 40 students to fill a four-week composites manufacturing training program that begins on Sept. 13. Graduates from the program are eligible for jobs in the rapidly-expanding composite materials industry at companies such as Energetx in Holland.  (More)
