GRCC planning talks about role of community college to coincide with White House event

GRAND RAPIDS — As the White House leads a national discussion about the role of community colleges, local leaders say they want to hear from faculty, community leaders — and especially students. Grand Rapids Community College is planning a live screening Tuesday of the White House event’s opening and closing sessions. Students in impoverished communities will now have more opportunities to prepare for college by giving back to their communities. The Corporation for National and Community Service’s $5.4 million dollar contribution will launch six new Youth Engagement Zones that will enable middle and high school youth to become more invested in their academic and civic responsibilities. Get Your Heart In The Game’ PERRYSBURG TOWNSHIP, OH – The Owens Community College volleyball program and the Raising Awareness Club are encouraging area residents to help in supporting the American Heart Association and the organization’s efforts in the fight against cardiovascular disease by making a donation during the Express’ home quadrangular against Grand Rapids Community College, Oakland Community College and Jackson Community College on Sunday, Oct. 10.
