The Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital is the New Kid on the Block

Big, blue and round, the new Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital is full of circles — colorful artwork circles, swirling mosaics, round wayfinding signs, chairs and ottomans. […] The hospital’s proximity to GVSU’s and Grand Rapids Community College’s nursing and health sciences programs means students receive training in real-life hospital situations. Many of them land jobs at the hospital after graduation, Hanley says. All told, the children’s hospital has created some 150 new jobs. (More)

George Bayard’s Enduring Art

George Bayard came up in a recent discussion surrounding the Christmas vandalism of various Uptown businesses. Curious as to why Bayard no longer called Uptown his entrepreneurial home, I found articles indicating he had relocated his business, Bayard Gallery of Fine African American Art and Books, from the 1100 block of Wealthy St. SE to a new space on Kalamazoo Ave. in Boston Square. GRCC Big Winner in Holland Ice Sculpting Contest

HOLLAND, MI (WHTC News) – Downtown Holland Principal Shopping District officials announced yesterday that Grand Rapids Community College emerged victorious from a group of six teams competing in the third annual collegiate ice sculpting invitational along 8th Street this past weekend. Update: Funeral Service Details for Glenn Waite

The family will greet friends Saturday from 11:00 am until time of Mass of Christian Burial at 12 noon at Our Lady of Consolation Catholic Church, Rockford. Fr. Tony Russo, celebrant. Interment will be at a later date at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Kingston, Ohio. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the donor’s choice. Nominate Non-Traditional Students for GRAHEN Outstanding Adult Learner Award

Please support our adult and non-traditional students at GRCC by nominating them for the Grand Rapids Area Higher Education (GRAHEN) annual Outstanding Adult Learner (OAL) award. The OAL Banquet, which will be held this year on Wednesday April 20, 2011, recognizes and honors the academic achievements and community contributions of adult students from local higher education institutions.
