Today: GRCC Celebrates Martin Luther King Day

GRCC Community Peace March Honoring Martin Luther King

Today kicks off a series of events that GRCC is presenting along with other local higher education partners.  The feature is a presentation by Judy Richardson Today, January 17, 2011, 6:30 p.m., Ford Fieldhouse , Looking Back to Look Forward. In addition, Richardson’s film Scarred Justice: The Orangeburg Massacre 1968 will be presented twice through the Woodrick Diversity Center (Both showings will be in the Center’s conference room LRC room 122.):

  • Thursday, January 13, 2:00 – 3:30 p.m.
  • Friday, January 14, 9:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.

GRAND RAPIDS — It’s time to make room for another rivalry amid the local small-college basketball landscape. The clash between Grand Rapids Community College and Muskegon Community College on Friday night at Ford Fieldhouse featured head coaches and players on both sides who know each other quite well, prompting an intense finish in an overtime thriller in which MCC prevailed, 83-76.  (More)

GRAND RAPIDS — Debbie Nikodemski wasn’t much of a scorer during her prep days at Rockford High School. That has changed. Nikodemski emerged as a prolific scorer for two seasons at Grand Rapids Community College. The trend has continued this season after making the jump to NCAA Division III Olivet College.  (More)

GRAND RAPIDS – Grand Rapids Community College leaders say they’re proud of their veteran faculty, but that experience comes at a high price – according to a disputed report.  About half of the community college’s faculty are at the top level of their contact’s pay grade, and professors can earn extra money for additional years of service, advanced degrees and teaching extra courses, based on information the college released Friday.  (More)

Learning Opportunity: First Aid – Responding to Emergencies

Want to be able to help your family, friends or colleagues in an emergency? Employee Professional Development & Enrichment is offering employees the opportunity to do just that. Learn how to control bleeding, identify the signs of various soft tissue and musculoskeletal injuries, sudden illness, stroke, diabetic emergency, poisoning, allergic reactions, heat and cold emergencies and suspected head, neck and back injuries and how to care for them. This class is designed to teach lay responders the knowledge and skills necessary to give care in an emergency and minimize the consequences of injury or sudden illness until medical help arrives.

This two part course will be held:

  • Part 1: Friday, February 25, 2011 3:30-5:30 p.m.
  • Part 2: Friday, March 18, 2011 3:30-5:30 p.m.
