On Monday, January 17, 2011 GRCC hosted the 25th annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Peace March & Celebration at noon in the Ford Fieldhouse. We were pleased to welcome over 1,500 students and community members to participate in this year’s event. The event included a silent march throughout downtown Grand Rapids, followed by a program that featured music and presentation by elementary, high school and college students.  (Click Here for a Full Slideshow of all Images)

Family Bowling Ticket Deadline 1/19/11

Wednesday, January 19 is the deadline to purchase tickets for the GRCC Family Bowling Outing (sponsored by Employee Professional Development & Enrichment) being held this Saturday, January 22 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Spectrum Lanes. The cost is $6 per person for unlimited bowling and pizza buffet. Tickets are available from the following people:

GRCC Winter Semester Enrollment Sets New Record

5% increase compared to Winter 2010 at GRCC. More than 18,000 students at the two year school. Grand Rapids Community College says their enrollment for the Winter Semester is up 5% from last year. There are 18,142 students at the two year school. Registrar Diane Patrick says Monday was the official headcount day at GRCC.  (More)

Crazy Office Olympics Coming 3/10/11

Employee Professional Development & Enrichment and the WE Team are sponsoring a Crazy Office Olympics on Thursday, March 10 from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. in the Fieldhouse. This is during Winter Break for all those folks who are not going someplace sunny. This will be a 5 member relay team competition (sorry no student employees this time). Here are the requirements for teams:

Team captain designated
Team name
Teams need to design a uniform or “look”
Teams need to create a flag to carry for the “Opening Ceremony”
Every team member must participant in one challenge
Teams must register by Friday, February 11 at http://bit.ly/crazy_office_olympics_registration

Adjunct Faculty Learning Day: Blackboard Day Camp Saturday, January 22

The Center for Teaching Excellence is offering adjunct Faculty Learning Day: Blackboard Day Camp, Saturday, January 22 in 122-124 Applied Technology Center (ATC), Downtown Campus.

  • 8:15-8:45 a.m. -Continental Breakfast and Welcome from Dr. Laurie Chesley, Dean, School of Arts and Sciences
  • 9:00 a.m. – Noon – Sessions

Beginning Blackboard for Adjunct Faculty Plus
This hands-on session will help you begin to use Blackboard 9 to manage course information and communicate with students. Topics will include posting announcements, documents, and external links; communicating using the Discussion forum and other tools: and setting up your Gradebook.
Prerequisite: must have obtained Novell login and successfully logged into the GRCC network

OR

Intermediate Blackboard for Adjunct Faculty
This hands-on session will help you further develop your skills in Blackboard. Topics will include the Blackboard Content system, Camtasia Relay, and advanced communication tools. You’ll also become familiar with new tools available with our Bb 9 upgrade.
Prerequisite: Must have attended a Blackboard Basics session and/or currently be using Blackboard for at least one class.

Parking is available beneath the ATC or across Ransom in the Bostwick ramp. Validation will be provided.
