Please join your colleagues for learning opportunities and networking on Saturday morning, February 19. Following refreshments and a general opening session, you will be able to attend two workshops:
Firing Up Thinking Skills and Herding CATs, facilitated by Ann Alexander.
Audience: All adjunct faculty members are invited; attendance is voluntary. Sessions are planned to meet the needs of both new and experienced adjunct faculty members.
Firing Up Thinking Skills
We want to take you higher! Focus on the knowledge and tools needed to foster higher level thinking skills in students. You will be able to:
- identify and recognize the importance of higher level thinking skills (analyzing, evaluating and creating)
- develop classroom activities that encourage students to demonstrate higher level thinking skills
- develop techniques to assess student demonstration of higher level thinking skills
- identify at least one activity and one assessment to be used in your classroom to promote and assess thinking skills
Herding CATs
These CATs (classroom assessment techniques) are at home in all disciplines. You will be able to:
- identify and recognize the importance of CATs (classroom assessment techniques)
- participate in at least three CATs
- identify CATs used in fellow participants’ classes
- identify at least one new CAT to be used in your classroom
Date and Time: This session will be offered on Saturday, February 19, from 8:30 a.m. – 12:00 Noon in the Applied Technology Center on our downtown Grand Rapids campus.
