Honors Program Reception 2011

The Admissions Office and the Department of Experiential Learning co-hosted the second annual Honors Program Reception on Monday, April 11, 2011 at Sneden Hall. All high schools seniors who had applied to GRCC and met the Honors Program requirements were invited to the reception. The program included a presentation by a current GRCC honors student and testimony by an Honors Program graduate. A total of 27 students, plus their family members attended the event.

Call for Excellence in Education Nominations

The Excellence in Education Award was established in 1989 to honor an individual Grand Rapids Community College employee for his or her contributions to the College, higher education and the community. In 2000, it was decided to honor both an outstanding staff member and an outstanding faculty member. The recipient in each area receives an award of $1,000 and a $1,000 contribution to the GRCC Foundation is made in the recipient’s name. This is the highest award presented to GRCC employees.  Complete details and nomination forms here.

Formation Retreat for Staff


Employee Professional Development & Enrichment is once again offering Formation Retreat for Staff. This year’s retreat begins at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, June 29 and concludes with lunch on Friday, July 1. The retreat will be held at the Gilchrist Retreat Center near Three Rivers, Michigan. The retreat will be facilitated by Frank Conner and Judy Jankowski.

Retirement Celebration for Nursing Faculty – Kathy Miller, Ellen Stuart, and Linda Burden

GRCC’s Nursing Department is holding a retirement reception for three faculty members who will be departing from the program; Kathy Miller, Ellen Stuart, and Linda Burden.  The reception takes place Thursday April 28 from 11:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. in the Student Center – Room SCC 234.

Please come join the Nursing Department in celebrating their many years of service!

Safezone Training Opportunity for Employees

The SafeZone program is a diversity education program that includes all individuals in a personal journey toward greater understanding and inclusion (regardless of race, ethnicity, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, religion, age, weight, height, marital status, status as a Vietnam era veteran, and disability, as a reflection of the GRCC EEOC statement). The program philosophy provides not only a safe space for all people, but also increases communication and understanding among people. One of the goals of SafeZone is to emphasize that all individuals will be treated and respected as human beings. Further, the program emphasizes that ignorance, bigotry, and harassment will not be tolerated in an environment of learning.

Video: GRCC Photography Students Participating in SiTE: LAB

GRCC photography students taught by GRCC Professor Filippo Tagliati and Chuck Heiney helped shoot content for this promotional video for “SiTE: LAB” – a unique artistic endeavor on April 15, 2011 presented by ART.DOWNTOWN at the former Junior Achievement Building, southeast corner of Division and Fulton.  Artists will convene on the facility to create permanent art installations to remain in the building for the new occupants.

Print Solutions Reinventing Department

Grand Rapids Community College Print Solutions is re-inventing the department to include a new digital press and fi nisher produced by MGI and distributed through Graphco.  Join Print Solutions as they explore new ways of producing and finishing print media showing you the possibilities of forming a partnership to meet GRCC’s needs.

Graphco will be on hand to assist us in demonstrating this new equipment and will be available to answer any questions on April 14th from 11a.m.- 4 p.m. in the Main Building-G1 room 9.
