GRCC Staff member to present at EDUCAUSE 2011

Nathan Hamilton (IT Enterprise Applications) will be presenting at EDUCAUSE 2011 in Philadelpia, PA on Thursday October 20th.  His session is entitled “Solving the Complexities of Record Management with ECM.”  The presentation will focus on efficient management of documents and streamlining processes using ECM (Enterprise Content Management) software. Nate has been instrumental in the implementation of ImageNow the college’s document management system.

EDUCAUSE is a nonprofit association whose mission is to advance higher education by promoting the intelligent use of information technology.

Phone Service Changes

Over the next two weeks, GRCC will be switching its phone service for local and long distance calls to another vendor.  As part of this transition, there are a few things to be aware of.

Wednesday, October 19 – New lines will be activated and tested.  This will not affect phone calls.
Friday, October 21 – We will move an extremely small subset of our numbers to the new lines.  This will not affect phone calls.

Thursday, October 27 – We will move the remaining phone numbers to the new lines.
By 7:00 AM, we will temporarily reduce the number of lines available for external calls to prepare for the change.  You may receive a busy signal when trying to make an outside call.  You can help by limiting external calls to business purposes or delaying external calls until after the transition occurs.

At 8:30 AM, the phone company will initiate a transfer of our numbers from the old provider to the new one.  There will be about a 30 second period where calls can not be made to/from the college.  As with any technology, there is the potential for problems which could result in a longer outage.  Calls that are in progress when the switch occurs should not be affected.  Internal calls will not be affected.

Participating in an effective review process can offer peer, team, and self-evaluation of online course development and delivery. When OTC Online prepared to update the online review process for its re-accreditation, the first step was to begin examining course development and delivery as two different processes, allowing reviewers to more accurately evaluate courses for multiple areas: design, navigation, collaboration, interaction, active learning, assessment, learning objectives, accessibility, and the online instructor’s role.
OTC Online looked to the recognized Quality Matters, Chico State Rubric, and Blackboard Exemplary Course Program as guides for revising its course review process. With review processes that involve instructors before and after review, evaluation can be positive and interactive rather than fragmented and isolated. Data gathered can be used for steps toward advancements for an online college, departments, course development, and individual instructors.
