Nations Cup International Student Culinary Competition Underway – Photos

GRCC’s Secchia Institute puts on an international student culinary competition every two years called the “Nations Cup,” inviting teams from five nations to the kitchens of the ATC to face off against team USA.  This year, Barbados, Canada, Puerto Rico, Mexico, and Scotland are vying for the coveted trophy.

Reminder – Flu Shots for Employees 10/24/11

Flu injections will be provided to GRCC staff (excluding students) on Monday, October 24, between 11:30 AM and 1:30 PM in the Bookstore (Student Community Center).  Reservations are not required.  The cost to staff is $17 cash or check payable to GRCC.  Priority Health participants will be covered for flu shots administered on-site on October 24th.  Please have your Priority Health card with you, and Spectrum Health will bill on your behalf.  Flu shots administered on October 24th will not be covered by WMHIP or MESSA.  Contact Jan Benham 234-3905 ( with any questions.

GRCC, Illinois college presidents pumped for ‘Twin Bowl’

GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) — There is nothing like sibling rivalry — especially when the siblings are twins and presidents of community colleges. Dr. Steven Ender, president of Grand Rapids Community College, and his brother Dr. Ken Ender, president of Harper Community College in Palatine, Illinois, will meet this Saturday to watch their respective school teams play in what is being called the Twin Bowl. Identical twin brothers Kenneth and Steven Ender were born rivals. Thanks to their professional titles, two college football teams also can get in on the action. The two Enders — the presidents of Harper College in Palatine and Grand Rapids Community College in Grand Rapids, Mich., respectively — once again will see their football teams go head to head in the annual Twin Bowl, a gridiron game that guarantees its two opponents will officially meet their match.  (More)

GRCC Students vs WZZM Anchors in a Battle of the Plate – Video

In honor of GRCC’s Nations Cup International Culinary Competition (happening now in the ATC kitchens), students from the Secchia Institute for Culinary Education visited the news room of WZZM 13 to challenge achors Lee Van Ameyde and Juliet Dragos in “plating” dishes for service.

Congrats and thanks to Department Head Chef Dan Gendler, Competition Judge Chef Ian MacDonald, and students Mike Stapert and Kirsten Weber.


Student Records Office Moving to G2 Main Temporarily

The Student Records/Registrar’s Office will temporarily be moving to G2, Room 76 Main (AKA Happy Room), for approximately two weeks beginning Monday, October 24, for office renovations. Our main phone line (4121) will be forwarded and answered from that location from 8AM – 4:45 PM Monday – Friday and staff will be available from 8AM-5PM Monday through Friday at that location.
