Music for the Holidays – 12/4/11

The GRCC Music Department presents “Music for the Holidays” this Sunday afternoon, December 4, 3pm at the St. Cecilia Music Center, 24 Ransom NE, Grand Rapids

The program will include seasonal music presented by GRCC music ensembles including the Campus Band, Wind Ensemble, Concert Choir and Orchestra with student soloists, Guitar Ensemble, Flute Quintet, Percussion Ensemble, Saxophone Quartet, Mariachi Ensemble, Jazz Combo, String Quartet and a special guest appearance by the Forest Hills Eastern Chorale.

The concert is free and open to the public.

Windows 7 and Office 2010 Upgrade Lunch and Learn

On Thursday, December 1st, from Noon to 1PM, the IT Department will host a lunch and learn session in the Sneden Multipurpose Room — 108 Sneden. This session will inform GRCC employees about the Windows 7 / Office 2010 upgrade for faculty and staff, which will begin in January 2012. This session will include a 15-minute presentation about what to expect with the upgrade followed by 45 minutes of questions and answers with the project team. For those who could not attend our November 22nd lunch and learn, this is the last time we’re offering this session, so we hope you can attend.

Please bring your appetite; there will be Subway sandwiches, chips, cookies, and drinks for the first 50 people who attend.

Rockford weekly paper ceases publication

ROCKFORD — The Rockford Independent, a weekly newspaper, printed its last edition last week as owners re-evaluate the market potential for a different product. “It’s tough out there in the marketplace,” said Rob Stafford, one of the owners of Stafford Media Solutions, which bought the newspaper a little more than six years ago.  (More)

Lady Cougars fall in first round of nationals

TOLEDO, OHIO – The Illinois Central College volleyball team lost its opening round matchup in the NJCAA Division II National Tournament against Grand Rapids Community College on Thursday night in Toledo, Ohio. The Grand Rapids Raiders won the match in five sets by the score of 27-25, 21-25, 25-15, 25-16, 15-12. While the Cougars lost the match, they played well during parts.  (More)
