Safety and Security On Campus (NEW COURSE)

Are you prepared to handle emergency situations on campus? Tony Myers and Sara Dorer will answer your questions. During the session Safety and Security on Campus participants will gain an understanding of: the range of different campus emergency situations, utilizing appropriate communication systems during emergencies, appropriate reactions in different emergency situations and providing valid information to others in emergency situations. Stress Reduction through Meditation

All of us experience periods of stress. Work pressures build, family matters boil up, we don’t feel well sometimes. Can meditation help relieve our stressors? Yes! Research over the past several years has demonstrated that meditation is an effective technique to help reduce stress, especially when it compliments exercise, good nutrition, and therapy where appropriate. In this class you will learn about the research, learn basic meditation techniques, and will get to experience the benefits that 10 minutes a day can bring. Russ Pitts, from the GR Zen Center, will guide the group in Stress Reduction through Meditation on Friday February 24, 2012 from 10 – 11 AM.

GroupWise8 Calendaring

MaryBeth Beighley will be facilitating 2 sessions of GroupWise 8 Calendar skills. Participants will learn the fundamentals of scheduling appointments, customizing calendar options and optimizing group calendar usage. Participants are encouraged to bring their calendar questions and “need to know” items for discussion and discovery. This course is tailored to meet the calendar-specific needs of the class participants. Sessions will be held Tuesday February 28, 2012 9 – 10:30 AM and again on Thursday March 22, 2012 from 2 – 3:30 PM. Select the one that fits your schedule and enroll today.

Political Polling 101

GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM)- If you’ve followed the polls this political season, they’ve been all over the place, with one candidate up one week, and down the next. It made us wonder – how do these polls work – and, are they reliable? […] A reliable poll typically has completed interviews with about 600 people to acquire a 95% confidence level in it’s results, according to Steve Harris, an adjunct mathematics professor at Grand Rapids Community College.  (More)
