Recently a GRCC employee was contacted by a person who claimed to be from Microsoft and asked questions about their local computer setup.
This employee was also asked to let the caller take control of the computer remotely. Please be aware that this is a scam!
This scam can at first glance appear legitimate because you are contacted via phone from a fake extension (e.g. 92152) by people who claim to be from Microsoft.
They may attempt any of the following tactics to deceive you:
Please note that Microsoft will never make unsolicited phone calls to help you with your computer. If you receive a phone call like this, hang up immediately and report the incident to IT_Security_Team@grcc.edu
We would like to take this time to remind you that you should never give your password to anyone, not even our own IT staff, for any reason. You should also never allow anyone but our IT Customer Support Department here at GRCC to access your computer remotely.
Please remember to always go with your gut. If something seems fishy it probably is. There is nothing wrong with asking questions. When in doubt contact the GRCC IT Security Department.

Human Resources is offering focus group opportunities for employees to come and review data from the SOS and PACE surveys and offer input around ‘what improvement looks like’. This year, we are holding combined sessions including both PACE and Staff Opinion Survey results. The results from these focus group sessions will be shared with cabinet and all BCO’s so that specific department action plans can be developed to address opportunities for improvement. Please take advantage of these sessions. We need your input.
Four sessions, “Putting Input Into Action”, have been scheduled for March:
If you are interested in learning more about the SOS and PACE survey results and/or providing suggestions for improvement opportunities, please go to Staff Development’s web page to register for one of these focus group sessions.
If you have any questions please feel free to contact Jessica Berens X3179
