GRCC History Class Visits Public Museum to Learn About WWI-era Grand Rapids

GRCC History Class Visits Grand Rapids Public Museum

The HS293 seminar class about the era of WWI and the interwar period, taught by Prof. Susan Williams and Prof. Robert Hendershot, had the opportunity to visit the Grand Rapids Public Museum this past week. Their staff Historian and Director of Collections, Christopher Carron (who also teaches GRCC’s Grand Rapids history course), was kind enough to give the group a guest lecture on the city’s history, as well as to guide the class through some related exhibits. A few themes of the day included the various groups who migrated to Grand Rapids in the early 20th century and the famous furniture strike of 1911.

This special history seminar includes numerous interdisciplinary components, and the faculty and students are extremely grateful to all the other faculty members from across the campus who are contributing their time and expertise to its success.
