GRCC Distance Learning and Instructional Technologies Leads Engagement at Blackboard 2012 World Conference

Cheryl Kautz (Computer Applications Professor), Meegan Willi (DLIT Instructional Designer/Technologist), and Eric Kunnen (Director of Distance Learning and Instructional Technologies) had the wonderful opportunity to attend the 14th national BbWorld 2012 conference that was held at the convention center last week in New Orleans.

There were all sorts of innovative announcements and highlights announced at this conference.

In brief:

  1. Cheryl Kautz received the Blackboard Exemplary Course Award at a special luncheon, and she also participated on a panel session with San Jacinto College, University of Miami, and Colorado State University (“Beyond the Bells and Whistles – Exemplary Courses and Best Practices”).
  2. Eric Kunnen was fortunate enough to present as a panelist with Jacksonville State University, University of Maryland, and Montgomery County in 2 sessions: “Blackboard Analytics for Learn – Panel Discussion” and “Mobility and Course Communications: Bb Connect”.
  3. There were keynotes by the President of the University of Maryland, Sal Khan founder of the Khan Academy, and a Blackboard keynote with Ray Henderson who is the CTO and President of Academic Platforms along with Michael Chasen who is the President and CEO of Blackboard.

GRAND RAPIDS, MI – A Grand Rapids man was sentenced this afternoon to eight months in federal prison for possessing counterfeit money. Police said Daquawon Desmond Haten had $1,620 in counterfeit bills in his possession when he was arrested in Grand Rapids in February.  (More)

On Wednesday July 11th, Jodi Kuyt’s Yoga Class (WE 127) decided to head outside for class! During the yoga class, students enjoyed the nice breeze, focused on appreciating nature, and ended with a final relaxation/meditation. Are you stressed? Can’t seem to relax and find balance in your life physically and mentally? Maybe YOU should sign up for Yoga Level 1 (WE 127) or Intermediate Yoga Level 2 (WE 135) this Fall or Winter!
