Staff Development has been offering some different classes this year geared around food and in the last few months a lot of employees have been having fun our culinary kitchens with Tara Rietsma and Josh Ferguson. Tara taught us about Cooking with Herbs and Breaking Down Beef Cuts.

Yesterday Josh shared with us Healthy Cooking on a Budget along with proper knife skills and how to properly butcher a chicken. These classes have been a lot of fun and filled with a lot of great recipes. Here are some photos from the class today. Thanks Tara and Josh for being so willing to educate us!

GRCC launching new tactic to raise money that doesn’t involve tuition

GRAND RAPIDS, MI — Grand Rapids Community College is making a push to deepen its relationship with alumni, a move it hopes will strengthen ties to the community and boost fundraising. Administrators say they hope the strategy helps increase annual giving to the college from $600,000 to $800,000 in 2015 – donations primarily used for student scholarships and institutional improvements.  (More)

Rockford poet earns ‘honorable mention’ at national competition

ROCKFORD, MI — Eric Greinke, a Rockford-based poet, earned an honorable mention at national poetry competition held in New Jersey. Greinke, a Grand Rapids Community College alumnus, was among more than 30 poets who earned an honorable mention at 2012 Allen Ginsberg Awards at the Poetry Center at Passaic County Community College in Patterson, N.J.  (More)
