Learning Opportunities from Staff Development for Meet & Confer Employees and Supervisors
Beginning the last week in August, and running through the months of September and October, Staff Development and Human Resources will co-facilitate several sessions addressing ‘Meet & Confer Pay for Performance’ and ‘Writing Goals and Outcomes for the Performance Evaluation.’ Specific dates, times and locations can be found online at grcc.edu/currentlearning

GRCC’s David Cope to Read with Jack Ridl on September 13
GRCC English professor and Grand Rapids Poet Laureate David Cope will read from his poems with acclaimed poet and former Hope professor Jack Ridl at Downtown Schuler Books and Music on Thursday, September 13, from 5:30-6:30 p.m. David’s most recent accomplishments include designing and overseeing the successful Grand Rapids Poets’ Conference last spring at the college, and the recent landing of a publisher for the anthology of 16 Grand Rapids poets he edited, Song of the Owashtanong: Grand Rapids Poetry in the 21st Century.
The book is tentatively scheduled for an early 2013 release under the Ridgeway Press imprint. Jack Ridl was a Hope College professor for 37 years, author of several books of poetry, and editor of three anthologies published by Bedford/St. Martin’s. Recognized with numerous awards and cited as the Carnegie Foundation’s 1996 Michigan Professor of the Year, Ridl continues to give regular readings and workshops. Please join us for an enjoyable evening of poetry.

With the Fall semester upon use we have our new online ordering available for new faculty to use to order their classroom printing materials. Please review the online videos located under “Links” on our home page grcc.edu/printing
There you will find How to Register and Quick Copy Ordering Videos that will walk you through the process. Please remember that while you are registering, you must complete all of your information at that time. If you have any questions during this process, please call 234-3960 and someone can assist you.
Also one new feature that you will be seeing for all orders is an email stating your order is complete and ready for pick up or delivery, depending on what you requested at time of order. This is just one of many features we will be implementing and showing in the next few months so read the GRCC Today and then visit our web site for more video instructions.
Fall 2012 Wellness Class Offerings
Our classes this fall will be 7 week sessions again. The first session is running from September 10 until November 2, 2012. The second session is November 5 until December 21, 2012. The sessions are $20.00 each and you may participate in as many classes as you would like. Below are the classes along with the class descriptions.
2012 Fall Employee Wellness Class Descriptions
Yoga
Open to all levels of practice and abilities, our soothing gentle class focuses on an exploration of basic yoga poses and how to connect them through attention to breathing, alignment and mindfulness. Therapeutic in nature, you will learn techniques to help you gain flexibility, while immersing yourself in a relaxing class that moves at a perfectly slower pace – allowing ample time to enjoy each pose. Expect lots of stretching & lingering in supported seated poses. Meditation and relaxation techniques will also be introduced, perfect for stress relief and overall wellbeing. All levels welcome. Bring a yoga mat please.
30-15-15
Maximize your workout with 30 minutes of cardio, 15 minutes of strength and 15 minutes of core/flexibility for a very efficient and total body workout. All levels welcome. Bring a yoga mat, water and hand weights (optional).
Zumba
Zumba fuses hypnotic Latin/International rhythms and movements. These easy to follow moves feature interval training sessions where fast and slow rhythms and resistance training are combined to tone and sculpt your body while burning fat. No prior experience necessary. All levels welcome.
Core Barre
This Core Barre inspired class will sculpt, strengthen and elongate all of your major muscle groups. All levels welcome no dance experience necessary. All levels welcome.
Tae Kwon Do
The class will focus on the basics of kicking, punching, blocking and forms. All levels are welcome as the instructor will work with you to succeed. Tae Kwon Do helps with balance, coordination, confidence, concentration, and a great workout. You only need yourself and comfortable clothing. All levels welcome.
