Graphic novelist Douglas Rushkoff, a globally recognized media and technology theorist specializing in new media and Internet culture, will be the featured speaker tonight, November 13, 2012, at Grand Rapids Community College’s Diversity Lecture Series.
Dr. Rushkoff, a CNN commentator best-known for his association with early cyberpunk culture, will discuss “Digital Nation” at 7 p.m. today at Fountain Street Church, 24 Fountain St. NE. The lecture is free; on-campus parking costs $3 with a discount pass. For more information: (616) 234-3390.
Dr. Rushkoff originated several ideas, ranging from “viral media” to “social currency” with insight on how interactive communications affect our society as we create, share, and influence each other’s values. He is the author of 12 books, including the Gen-X Reader, Screenagers, and Life Inc.: How Corporatism Conquered the World, and How We Can Take It Back. A book signing will follow his talk.
