In wake of Newtown school shootings, Grand Rapids Community College event to focus on gun violence

GRAND RAPIDS, MI — Examining gun violence in America from a psychological, historical and criminal justice standpoint is the focus of a three-day event planned at Grand Rapids Community College for next week.

Grand Rapids — Faculty from Grand Rapids Community College’s Psychology, Social Sciences and Criminal Justice departments have assembled a three-day symposium that will take on the many-faceted topic of gun violence.

Saugatuck students will get look at technology and careers

Saugatuck — Saugatuck High School’s 10th-grade class will visit Grand Rapids Community College on Tuesday as part of a pilot career exploration program. Saugatuck High school is providing the Workkeys Talent and Fit Assessment and lean manufacturing simulation with a grant from the Ottawa Intermediate School Districts School to Work Program.

West Michigan immigrants relieved by state’s decision to grant driver’s licenses

GRAND RAPIDS, MI — When Noe Villanueva heard the Michigan Secretary of State had reversed its decision and would begin granting drivers licenses to immigrants who qualify for the federal government’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals Program, he was surprised and grateful.

… “So I gave up my education, because I was attending Grand Rapids Community College, and went to Washington,” he said. “I was paranoid that I would be involved in an accident and I wouldn’t be able to provide a license.”

Barrel of Monkeys, other family-friends events added to LaughFest 2013

GRAND RAPIDS, MI — LaughFest 2013 will have several returning family-friendly acts that will sure to make your kids “barreling” over with creativity.

… This year’s 10-day festival will also give kids and teens the opportunity to stretch their legs and exercise with Saturday Kids Zone and Teen Zone events on March 16 at the Grand Rapids Community College Field Ford House, 111 Lyon St. NE, Grand Rapids.
