Eighteen members of the GRCC Christian Fellowship, the Christian student organization at the college, along with music faculty member Grace Schwanda and club advisor Harry Lew, will spend Mid-Semester Break in Lavallette and Ortley Beach, New Jersey helping with Hurricane Sandy recovery efforts.
When Hurricane Sandy struck in late October, it devastated the homes of many people in the area. They still have not been able to move back. Working through the Union Church of Lavallette, a center for restoration work in the vicinity, the students will help dig out sand, rip out dry wall, and do other chores in order to help victims with the process of healing.
A fundraiser for the trip will be held at Cascade Brann’s Steakhouse and Sports Grille, 5510 28th St. SE, this Wednesday, February 20, for lunch and dinner. Your food purchase will result in a 15% donation for the transportation, housing, and food for this GRCC Christian Fellowship service project. Donations may also be made to the GRCC Christian Fellowship at Student Life, Room 25 Student Community Center, c/o Molly Maczka, Student Life Office Manager.
The students are excited about this trip. Not only will they see new places with a great group of people, they will also be able to serve others and hopefully make a difference in their lives.
