First Aid/CPR course targeted to construction trades

Prepare for and prevent medical emergencies in the construction trades industry with the First Aid/CPR Initial Certification course. This course covers primary assessment, heart problems, fractures, wounds and bandaging, stroke and shock management, eye injury, dislocation and splinting, obstructed airways, exposure to cold, control of bleeding, electrical injuries, back, head and neck injuries, epileptic seizures, and one-rescuer CPR. Sessions are scheduled for 6-10 p.m. March 11 and 18, 2013, at the Leslie E. Tassell M-TEC. The cost is $60. To register, click here.

After completion, you will be certified in First Aid/CPR and will receive an official card. Initial certification expires two years after completion. To maintain certification, you must then take a recertification class. The next session is set for 6-10 p.m. March 28 at Tassell M-TEC for $50. To register, click here.

Teresa Weatherall-Neal: La educación es la clave

GRAND RAPIDS, MICHIGAN, 22 DE FEBRERO DE 2013 (EVH).- Para Teresa Weatherall-Neal, superitendente de las Escuelas Públicas de Grand Rapids (GRPS por sus siglas en inglés), describir cómo le gustaría ver a las escuelas de Grand Rapids no es difícil: Un distrito escolar al cual educadores, padres y apoderados, estudiantes y miembros de la comunidad se sientan orgullosos de pertenecer y quieran hacerlo por cuenta propia.
… Estamos buscando en diferentes lugares en estos momentos. Tenemos estudiantes de 19 años de edad, que tienen 2-3 créditos. Nunca vas a graduarte. Tenemos que ayudar a ese estudiante a encontrar en otro sitio. Estamos trabajando con Steepletown, Centro Hispano, GRPS, GRCC, para crear un programa de GED. Todavía lo necesitan para tener éxito. Ellos viven en esta comunidad. Así que necesitan para ayudarles a obtener un GED por si quieren ir a una escuela vocacional o quieren ir a la universidad o que quieren conseguir un trabajo … necesitan un GED. Nos reunimos con estudiantes, unos 125 que están en riesgo de no poder graduarse, y les explicamos. Usted puede permanecer por un año más y voy a conseguir el dinero, pero Usted necesita obtener un GED.

Celebran acto de diversidad estudiantil en Union High School

GRAND RAPIDS, MICHIGAN (EVH) 20 DE FEBRERO 2013.- Con chistes, risas y anécdotas sobre su vida comenzó su exposición sobre el tema Mensajes de la Esperanza, el joven Gabe Salazar, ante unos 250 estudiantes que asistieron el pasado viernes al acto celebrado en el auditorio de Union High School.
… Al final de la actividad Salazar rifó y obsequio objetos donados por Hope Collage, Aquinas Collage, Grand Valley State University, Michigan State, Davenport University, Calvin College y Grand Rapids Community Collage, instituciones académicas que hicieron posible su presentación en la escuela secundaria Union.

Guitarist Mark Kroos to perform April 9, 2013

The Grand Rapids Community College International Guitar Series proudly presents  Mark Kroos, Double Neck Guitar Wizard at 7:30 PM Tuesday, April 9, 2013.

The concert will be held in the Recital Hall (Room 200) of the Grand Rapids Community College Music Center at the corner of Ransom and Lyon.

Admission is $10 for general admission and $7 for students and seniors.

One dollar parking is available in the GRCC student parking ramp with a GRCC guest parking voucher sold at the door.
