Edward Blum, a historian at San Diego State University, and Andrew Smith, an assistant professor of New Testament at Cornerstone University, took part in an MLive chat Tuesday, March 26.

Blum is scheduled to give the conference’s keynote address 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday, March 28, in room 108 of GRCC’s DeVos Campus, 433 E. Fulton St.

Wellness Department students work with Campus Elementary

Wellness Department Principles of Physical Education Class connecting with Campus Elementary Students and helping them become better readers and students. The PE 184 class worked with the students each Thursday through the whole semester tutoring, working on reading and writing and helping at recess, teaching students how to play organized games. Thank you to Campus Elementary, Nancy Carter at Campus Elementary, and the Principles of PE class for making a difference and connecting to change students lives here at GRCC and at Campus Elementary.

Congratulations to GRCC’s Newly Certified Online Faculty

Congratulations to the following faculty for successfully completing the Online and Hybrid Certification Course at GRCC!

This is an outstanding achievement and is an important part of supporting the growth of distance learning at GRCC.  In fact, enrollment in online courses is up +12% since last summer!  Completion of this 6 week course enables each of these faculty members to join more than 360 of their colleagues that are certified to deliver online and hybrid courses.  Online learning provides our students with more options than ever to achieve their educational goals.

7th Annual Teaching, Learning, and Technology Showcase a Success!

On Wednesday, March 20 GRCC held it’s 7th Annual Teaching, Learning, and Technology Showcase.

The event was kicked off by a presentation of GRCC’s “Excellence in Teaching with Technology Award”.  The winner of this year’s award was Andrew Vanden Heuvel, an adjunct in the Physical Science Department.  Congratulations to Anthony!

Over 50 faculty, administrators, and staff attended this event along with 13 sessions presented. Thank you to the follow presenters for taking the time to present to your colleagues:

Volunteers sought for ‘Literacy Moments’ video

Who:   You (GRCC students, employees, friends)

What: 2013 Literacy Moments Video

When: 1 – 3PM Friday, March 29 – JUST SHOW UP

No appointment is needed

Where: GRCC’s Media Technology department. If you face GRCC’s Library, look to your left for the entrance

Why: Support Grand Rapids Public Library’s One Book, One City for Kids literacy program’s partnership with Grand Rapids Public Schools and GRCC’s Alpha Beta Omega World Leaders Society.

How: Share a moment in life that helped you realize the value of reading or writing. For example, why did you take delight in reading the Bazooka bubble gum comic strip OR work extra hard on writing the birthday thank-you note to your Nana when you were nine? The wonderfully polished video will be available for years to come on YouTube for use by GRPL, GRPS teachers, and the public!

Raider Salute to the Wellness Department

Thank you to the Wellness Department instructors who helped develop the new courses that will be offered in Fall 2013: Jodi Gee, Melanie Schiele Gady, Beth Damon and Jocelyn Bunce.

Five new classes will be offered:

  • Healthy Living: On Campus and Online.
  • Mat Pilates.
  • Zumba.
  • Spinning.
  • Urban Eko Trek.

Thank you to Jodi Gee for connecting and organizing with the YogaFit Organization to bring the YogaFit certification course to the GRCC campus this past weekend. At the event, 40 participants from GRCC and the community received their Level 1 YogaFit Certification. They will all be able to teach Yoga in our community. Congratulations, it was a long 20-plus-hour weekend.
