GRAND RAPIDS, MI — As the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan wound down over the past several years, the number of returning veterans enrolling in college has grown.
… In West Michigan, Grand Rapids Community College received $3.5 million in disbursements for 421 students. Davenport University brought in $4.2 million for 299 students.
Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts will host Festival of Arts’ 2013 Regional Art Exhibition

GRAND RAPIDS, MI — Festival of Arts 2013 Regional Art Exhibition will be held in Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts, the fourth home in four years for show that’s part of Festival of the Arts.
… Three jurors will select work for the 2013 exhibition. Larry Blovits, a professor of art at Aquinas College, will be juror for painting and drawing; Adam DeKracker, an associate professor of photography at Kendall College of Art and Design of Ferris State University, will chose among photography submissions; and Scott Garrard, an assistant professor of ceramics, sculpture and 3D design at Grand Rapids Community College, will judge all three-dimensional and multimedia works.
GVSU signs transfer agreements with two more community colleges

Allendale — Grand Valley State University has signed transfer agreements with Alpena Community College and Mid Michigan Community College.
… GVSU has similar transfer agreements with Grand Rapids Community College, Muskegon Community College, West Shore Community College, Montcalm Community College, Lansing Community College, Macomb Community College and Northwestern Michigan College.
The predecessor of ArtPrize, Art.Downtown. returns in April to awaken our senses

Now that the temperatures are slowly climbing out of their below-freezing depths, and the sun is no longer retiring at six o’clock, it’s practically sinful to stay home another second, huddled under a mountain of blankets. The city is waking from hibernation; so should its residents. On April 12 the perfect pre-spring activity will commence: Art.Downtown. will feature the work of hundreds of local artists in over thirty city sites, 6-11 p.m.
Grand Rapids Trolley will be providing free trolley rides to transport Art.Downtown. visitors among seven locations, including the Grand Rapids Art Museum, Kendall College of Art and Design of Ferris State University, Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts, Avenue for the Arts, SiTE:LAB, and Kendall College of Art and Design Graduate Studios. Maps and volunteers will also be available to provide any necessary information to gallivanting art lovers.
