There will be wellness class offerings again this summer! We’d love for you to join us!

Once again the cost for the classes are $20.00 per session and you may participate in as many classes as you would like. Feel free to invite your friends, neighbors, and significant other! We’d be happy to have them too!

Tassell M-TEC employees visit seniors

A group of Tassell M-TEC employees recently had lunch with seniors at the United Methodist Community Center while delivering some donations. The donated items, including crossword puzzles, lotions and other personal hygiene items, tissues, pens and yarn, will be used as prizes for the weekly bingo games and for other needs around the facility.

“Our goal was to donate 50 items, and we collected and donated 66 items!” said Mandy Vanderhill. “Thank you for your generosity!”

Michigan Secretary of State Promotes Motorcycle Safety

BATTLE CREEK, Mich — Michigan Secretary of State Ruth Johnson knows about riding motorcycles. She was the first woman in Michigan to receive a motorcycle endorsement on her drivers license.

Grand Rapids Community College is a leader in motorcycle safety in West Michigan. The college sponsors safety courses throughout the region.

College notebook: ‘Interim’ title removed for Olivet LAX coach

Olivet College Athletic Director Heather Bateman has announced that the interim title has been removed for men’s lacrosse coach Adam Hague, who will take over the program full time.

… The Kellogg Community College baseball team is in a strong position to secure its second straight Michigan Community College Athletic Association championship.

The Bruins ranked No. 18 in the latest NJCAA Division II poll are 27-14 overall and 20-4 in the MCCAA. They have a 3 1/2 game lead over second-place Muskegon CC and a 4-game lead over Grand Rapids CC.

Your home is your physical and emotional haven. It’s the place for you to unwind and rejuvenate. It should be welcoming and visually comforting. Mary Dykstra gives you tools and ideas to help you create an uncluttered environment where you know where everything is and you can feel comfortable with drop-in visitors.


Alzheimer Support Group – GVSU

Whether you are caring for an aging loved one who can no longer live without your help or for a loved one with Alzheimer’s, GVSU recognizes the challenges that you are facing. Being a caregiver for someone with Alzheimer’s disease or someone who is unable to live independently, is known for placing a great burden on the caregiver. The pressures can be wide-ranging, and touch the social, psychological, physical and economic facets of the caregiver’s life. Get the support that you need by attending the GVSU Caregiver and Alzheimer’s Support Group. The group is facilitated by Cindy Beel-Bates, associate professor of nursing, and Sue Sloop, Work Life Connections consultant.

Supervisors may play many roles some of those roles may lead to conflict or complications. Institute for Healing Racism

The Institute for Healing Racism is a powerful and thought provoking venue that brings together diverse groups of people to explore and address issues of race and racism. Participants have the opportunity to examine how the dis-ease of racism affects all people and develop skills to detect institutional racism in our daily environments (i.e. home, workplace, community, organization and business).


This travel award is for fun, enjoyment, and relaxation. It is not intended to supplement any faculty, staff or administrator’s professional development travel funds. A cash award of up to $400 will be given to any full or part-time GRCC employee who completes the following requirements and has his or her essay judged the best to fulfill the employee’s intention to relax, enjoy and have fun.


1. Submit an essay (500 words or less) telling how you intend to use thecash award for fun, enjoyment, relaxation. The more unusual, the better!

2. Essays will not be judged on spelling, writing style, organization, usage or grammar.

3. Essays may be hand-written or typed. Do not put your name on the essay. Attach to the essay a sealed envelope containing your name and phone number. Write the last four numbers of your social security number in the upper right hand corner of the first page of the essay and on the outside of the envelope. Send the essay and envelope to Mary Reed, Grand Rapids Community College Foundation Office. All essays must be received by Friday, May 3, 2013.

4. All award winners will be notified by May 10, 2013.
