MONDAY:

TUESDAY:

5:30-6:30PM — 30-15-15 with Cheryl, Room 211 Spectrum Theatre

WEDNESDAY:

12:15-1:00PM — Core Barre with Jola, Room 211 Spectrum Theatre

5:30-6:15PM — Zumba with Cheryl and Angie, Room 211 Spectrum Theatre

THURSDAY:

2013 Summer Employee Wellness Class Descriptions

Yoga mats are available in Staff Development for anyone to borrow (and return of course). Please note the times of classes AND locations may be a little different than during the school year.   Please make checks out to GRCC.  Any questions please call Julie Otte x3490 or jotte@grcc.edu

Yoga

This class provides the student with a Yoga mat challenge that will focus on strengthening and conditioning the core muscles and getting sufficiently warmed up and centered. Students will also experience a flowing yoga series which will encourage gentle yet deep stretching and control.  All levels welcome.  Bring a yoga mat please.

30-15-15

Maximize your workout with 30 minutes of cardio, 15 minutes of strength and 15 minutes of core/flexibility for a very efficient and total body workout. All levels welcome.  Bring a yoga mat, water and hand weights (optional).

Core Barre

This Core Barre inspired class will sculpt, strengthen and elongate all of your major muscle groups. All levels welcome no dance experience necessary.  All levels welcome.

Tae Kwon Do

The class will focus on the basics of kicking, punching, blocking and forms.  All levels are welcome as the instructor will work with you to succeed.  Tae Kwon Do helps with balance, coordination, confidence, concentration, and a great workout.  You only need yourself and comfortable clothing.  All levels welcome.

9×5

9×5 is a fun and challenging functional workout that revs up the body’s furnace for continuous calorie burning for up to 20 hours post exercise.  This workout uses individual intensity levels that you can customize for yourself.  Every exercise involves full body movement and lasts only 5 minutes maximum.

Bob Wepman, Grand Rapids’ colorful, controversial arts activist, impresario, dies of cancer

GRAND RAPIDS, MI – Bob Wepman was an arts activist who changed the course of the Grand Rapids Symphony and Grand Rapids Ballet, who brought the Joffrey Ballet to Grand Rapids, and who loomed large over the artistic and cultural life of the community in the 1970s and 1980s.
…As arts coordinator of Grand Rapids Junior College, now Grand Rapids Community College, Wepman created the Great American Talk Festival, which brought such personalities as TV newsman Mike Wallace, actor Tony Randall, author Alex Haley, and author and animal rights activist Cleveland Amory to Grand Rapids.

Former Cornerstone standout named new basketball coach at Ferris State

BIG RAPIDS, MI – Andy Bronkema, a former standout at Cornerstone University, has been selected as the new basketball coach at Ferris State.
…Bronkema also served as the head running backs coach with the Grand Rapids Community College football team in 2005 when they finished as the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Non-Scholarship National Champions.

BOSTWICK RAMP STUDENT ENTRANCE CLOSED

The Bostwick/Fountain Ramp student entrance will be closed beginning today (July 1). The work will take place on the outer loop and will close parking up to the 5th level. The Bostwick Avenue student exit will remain open, as will the staff entrance and exit. The Ransom street, 6th level entrance and exit and 5th level exit will be open as usual. Students will need to park on the roof or the inner loop. Tape will be used to close off restricted areas.

ATTN Staff and Faculty: The Fountain street staff entrance and Bostwick street exit will tentatively close July 15th. More information will follow as we work out the details.
