West Michigan colleges rate as Great Colleges to Work For

Two West Michigan colleges have been named Great Colleges to Work For by The Chronicle of Higher Education.

Davenport University and Grand Rapids Community College join three other Michigan colleges on the 97-school list: University of Michigan, Eastern Michigan University and Siena Heights University.

Many urban advocates agree that strengthening the relationship between education systems and city building is a key tenet to growing livable, prosperous communities.

… The same could also be said for Grand Rapids with its mix of quality public and private institutions. Within the last decade, Grand Valley State University invested heavily in creating a new business school campus in downtown Grand Rapids, the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine opened on the Medical Mile, Van Andel Education Institute started offering doctoral degrees in biomedical research and Ferris State University opened a new molecular diagnostics lab, in addition to investments by Grand Rapids Community College, Davenport University and others near the downtown area.

Turn of events leads Bay City Western grads to Saginaw Valley State University baseball program

UNIVERSITY CENTER — Connor Foley and David Freed have always been baseball players.

… Several other Bay County ballplayers are expected to make the jump to junior college ball for 2014. Western’s Briton Ott, Brendan Harrison and Grant Rosenbrock, Bay City Central’s Taylor Richards and Pinconning’s Greg Kazmierski are heading to Delta College while All Saints’ Brian Feinauer is pegged for Grand Rapids Community College and Reid Beffrey is heading to Muskegon Community College.

Photos from Shades of Blue reunion

On Friday, July 26th, friends and family came together to harmonize, improvise, and socialize as Grand Rapids Community College held its first ever Shades of Blue Vocal Jazz Ensemble reunion. Many memories were shared and new ones were made. Retired professors and former Shades Directors, Duane Davis and Chuck Buffham directed that evening and were still sharing many words of wisdom. It was a great evening for all!
