From librarian Lisa Rabey: It’s the beginning of Banned Books Week! One of my favorite holidays for it celebrates the freedom to read and draws attention to the increasing problem of censorship. To participate in Banned Books Week, the library will have guest posts from staff and students celebrating their love of reading by nominating their favorite banned book through the week and also through the month of October. In addition, we’ll be curating boards on Pinterest and photosets on Tumblr.
If you are a student or staff at Grand Rapids Community College, you can participate by emailing Lisa Rabey (lrabey@grcc.edu) your favorite title, author, and a paragraph or two of why this is your favorite banned book.
Curious about what books have been challenged? Check out the lists below of ALA’s Banned and Challenged Books as well as the challenged classics for inspiration. You can also peruse through our posts from previous years (http://grcclibrary.wordpress.com/tag/banned-books-week/) to see what others are saying and writing about banned and challenged books.
