Four Grand Valley State women’s basketball players reach double digits in loss to Ashland

Grand Rapids, Mich. – The Grand Valley State women’s basketball team had its eyes set on a second straight upset, but it was not meant to be. The Lakers opened GLIAC play on Thursday (Dec. 5) night with a 76-73 loss to Ashland at Grand Rapids Community College’s Gerald R. Ford Fieldhouse.

Library has adjusted hours in January

The  library normally follows the approved Academic Calendar. For that reason, library hours will be adjusted in January:

Jan 2-3, 6-10, 2014 —  Campus is open, but there are no classes; library is open 8am-5pm with limited services.

Jan 4-5 and 11-12 (weekends)  — Library is CLOSED.

Jan 13 — Library begins regular winter hours

Cancer Warriors Network

Nearly 14 million cancer survivors are celebrating birthdays this year! This statistic illustrates that growing numbers of people are surviving cancer. However, a cancer diagnosis is frightening and affects not only the person diagnosed with cancer, but caregivers and loved ones. If you’re facing a cancer diagnosis, have a loved one battling cancer, or you are through with treatment and on the road to recovery, connecting with others who have traveled this journey can be a source of comfort and hope. These network meetings are an opportunity to bring together GVSU and GRCC families and friends, who have been impacted by cancer to gain information and support through speakers and cancer resources available on the site.

Cross Cultural Communication

In GRCC’s Woodrick Diversity Learning Center’s Cross Cultural Communication workshop, participants explore the history of their own communication style, and how it affects their current ability to enjoy and employ successful communication. They will experiment with relevant workplace communication examples. The program provides a safe place for participants to: Examine the intent of communication; Acknowledge that all of us have unspoken prejudices and assumptions; Apply cross cultural communication skills to customer service situations; Develop skills to manage difficult conversations utilizing appropriate communication.

Alzheimer Support Group

Whether you are caring for an aging loved one who can no longer live without your help or for a loved one with Alzheimer’s, GVSU recognizes the challenges that you are facing. Being a caregiver is known for placing a great burden on the caregiver. The pressures can be wide-ranging, and touch the social, psychological, physical, and economic facets of the caregiver’s life. Get the support that you need by attending the GVSU Caregiver and Alzheimer’s Support Group.

Body fat clinic offered in January

Mark your calendars for January 21st from 11-1 pm. The Wellness Department will be offering a free follow-up body fat clinic at the Ford Fieldhouse. If you weren’t able to make it to the body fat clinic this semester, you are still welcome to come and get your body fat tested for free!
