Obituaries today: Merry Anne Barrows, teacher, counselor and author of operettas

Merry Anne Barrows, a teacher and counselor who loved the theater, died Monday, Feb. 3, 2014.

… Her education included a Ph.D. in psychology from Michigan State University. She worked as a teacher in the Grand Rapids area and in Wisconsin. She also taught at Grand Rapids Junior College and was active in the development of the Counseling Center.

Actors’ Theatre explores the myths and truths of Andrew Jackson all in song

Kyle Amanda Dutkiewicz is fully aware of the controversy that surrounds Andrew Jackson and his actions. Her father, Ken, a former history teacher, has a fascination with Jackson, giving Dutkiewicz insight into the seventh president of the United States. It was Dutkiewicz’s father who first discovered and saw the New York production of Bloody, Bloody, Andrew Jackson; and when he couldn’t stop talking about it, she became intrigued with the musical.

Bloody, Bloody Andrew Jackson, with musical direction by Scott Bell, is presented by Actors Theatre February 622. All shows are at 8 p.m. at GRCC’s Spectrum Theater, 160 Fountain St. NE. Tickets $26$20. For tickets, call 234-3946 or visit
