Local college, university to offer exercise science program

Holland, Mich. — Grand Rapids Community College and Grand Valley State University recently signed an agreement to help students transfer to GVSU’s clinical exercise science program. Students can complete the first two years of the exercise science program at GRCC, finish at GVSU and earn a bachelor’s degree. GRCC courses offer instruction in exercise, nutrition, weight control and stress management. Students will also learn how to improve workplace safety and wellness practices. For more information:;

Center of African American Art: Black history is everyone’s history

Holland, Mich. — Holland’s Center of African American Art & History is a bit misunderstood.

… The largest gallery currently hosts (through March) “Haiku Middle Passage,” a text-and-art installation by Grand Rapids Community College English Professor Mursulata Muhammad. She sent haikus to various artists asking for visual responses, and the topics range from the U.S. slavery experience to modern-day human trafficking.

… Sara Karamol, Grand Rapids Community College: She scored 15 points in a 68-51 win over Ancilla College on Feb. 15. Karamol (Rockford), a 5-foot-9 freshman forward, averages 8.9 points and 8.0 rebounds for the Raiders (7-13, 6-6 MCCAA). In that win, teammate Danielle Harrison (GR Forest Hills Northern) had 12 points and 13 rebounds.


… Mike Cupples, Grand Rapids Community College: GRCC, coached by Cupples, is ranked 17th in the NJCAA Division II preseason poll. The Raiders, who won the NJCAA Region XII Tournament and qualified for the National Tournament last year, finished the season with a 28-28 record.
