Delta part of auto training articulation agreement

Five Michigan community colleges, including Delta College, have joined together to create a pilot program that will allow students in automotive technology programs to transfer among the schools with no loss of credits or repetition of course work as they pursue their certifications and degrees.

The Automotive Technology Articulation Agreement will allow students in automotive technology programs to transfer among Delta College, Grand Rapids Community College, Lansing Community College, Montcalm Community College and Mott Community College. Automotive technology programs were chosen for the pilot because they already adhere to nationally recognized automotive technician training standards.

GRAND RAPIDS, MI — Dee Dee Bridgewater, who starred in the Broadway show, “The Wiz,” as Glinda the Good Witch, got to sing one of the musical’s showstoppers, “If You Believe.”

… Duane Davis, retired director of vocal music at Grand Rapids Community College, organizer of the Grand Rapids Community Chorus, led the 68 voices and orchestra in his arrangements of a couple of old-school gospel tunes, including a powerful version of James Cleveland’s “Let Him in Today.”

Shirley Daniels, 88, worked her way up from serving salads to serving as a community leader

GRAND RAPIDS, MI — Shirley Daniels, a tenacious, elegant and community-minded pioneer, worked her way up from serving salads to serving as a leader on boards and institutions. Daniels died Monday, Feb. 24, 2014, at the age of 88.

… While there, she began attending Grand Rapids Junior College at night. She wrote her first assignments on paper bags, so her GM co-workers presented her with a new typewriter.

Sharks sweep Panthers

No. 2 UWF continues its roll

Both starting pitchers delivered strong performances as the No. 2 University of West Florida baseball team won a doubleheader Saturday against Christian Brothers in Memphis, Tenn.

TCC Baseball Completes Sweep of Chatt Valley

Tallahassee – A passed ball in the bottom of the eighth inning allowed Quincy Nieporte to race home from third with what proved to be the winning run and help NJCAA No. 16/FCSAA No. 4 Tallahassee Community College complete an improbable comeback in a 12-11 win over NJCAA No. 5 Chattahoochee Valley (Ala.) Community College on Sunday afternoon at Eagle Field.

… Now 17-5, the Eagles will host Grand Rapids (Mich.) Community College for a four-game series. The teams will play doubleheaders on Monday and Tuesday. The action begins at 3:30 p.m. both days.

Lady Cougars Participate in Hunger Games Food Drive

KALAMAZOO (MICH.)-The Kalamazoo Valley Community College Lady Cougars basketball team did its part to fight hunger in the Kalamazoo community. The team participated in the Michigan Community College Athletic Associations First Annual MCCAA Hunger Games, aiding food banks in the 19 communities of MCCAA schools.

… Kalamazoo Valley’s Hunger Game collection date was held on Jan. 29 during the home game against Grand Rapids Community College. Donations were given to Kalamazoo’s Loaves and Fishes food bank. “Our basketball team collected enough food to fill a grocery cart and then some, and there was also at least $40 in monetary donation given as well,” said Maureen Brown, Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach.
