Gov. Snyder’s higher education budget boosts GRCC’s funding, but administrators skeptical of tuition caps

GRAND RAPIDS, MI – Grand Rapids Community College is pleased that Gov. Rick Snyder’s proposed higher education budget includes increased funding for two-year colleges, but the school and others question the inclusion of tuition caps.

Pharr native Ines Varela was texting and driving on campus March 3 when she crashed, with no injuries resulting. She was only driving a simulator, and was able to see the effects that distracted driving can have in a life-like scenario.

… “Our main purpose is advocacy against people getting behind the wheel when they’ve had too much to drink, and for keeping their cell phones in pockets when they’re driving,” said (Jake) Azman, a 21-year-old Grand Rapids Community College student. “It’s going to be effective to show whats it’s like.”

Third GRCC Golfer Commits to Div I

Congratulations to David Thompson, a sophomore from Davison, who recently committed to Div I University of Detroit Mercy, a very successful program in the Horizen League. David joins Jared Multer/Eastern Michigan University and Tony Conaway/Savannah State as GRCC Golfers who will continue their careers at Div I programs next year. The 5th ranked GRCC Golf Team begins their spring season in Scottsboro, AL at the Goose Pond Colony Invitational Mar. 20.

 

Calling All Runners! GRCC Running Fitness Team Begins Another Year

The GRCC Running Fitness Team is entering its 5th year in the annual Triple Crown Series Races.  Last year the team finished in 6th place out of 41 teams in Division I.  16 staff members ran for GRCC.  We want more !!!

Organized by Gazelle Sports, the Triple Crown Series of Races is an annual competition among employers in the Grand Rapids area.  (http://www.gazellesports.com/info/208-triplecrown.html)  Runners score based on their place in their gender and age group.  Only the top 5 runners score for the team.  The rest of us run for fun & fitness.
