Obituaries Today: Sylvia Krissoff, 94, artist, professor, Grand Rapids Press art critic

Sylvia Gittlen Krissoff passed on March 6, 2014 at the age of 94, following a long life of art, teaching and writing.

… At an early age, she became aware of her talent as an artist and received training and encouragement from her South High School art teacher, Ms. Vevia. Following graduation, Krissoff attended Grand Rapids Junior College, the Chicago Art Institute and the University of Michigan, where she met her future husband, Abraham Krissoff, whom she married in 1940.

… She went on to teach fine arts and art history in the Grand Rapids Public Schools, Aquinas College, Grand Rapids Community College, Grand Valley State University and the University of Michigan.

GRCC faculty to don skivvies Sunday for Laugh Fest FUNderwear Run

GRAND RAPIDS, MI – The Grand Rapids Community College Faculty Association wants to do its part to help cancer patients. Even if that means donning their skivvies Sunday for a run through the streets of Grand Rapids.

GRAND RAPIDS, MI — Since laughter is considered to be medicine by actual medical doctors, Grand Rapids should be feeling pretty good right now.

… Popular comic Jim Gaffigan also returned to LaughFest, selling out Ford Fieldhouse at Grand Rapids Community College Friday night. He joked a little bit about cancer and fatherhood before delving heavily into his favorite topic, food, including a reference to Grand Rapids’ most famous hot dog joint: “I’m trying to figure out if I should go to Yesterdog,” he said. “I heard they’re famous because all of their hot dogs are a day old.”
