GRCC to host Empower Michigan community forum

On Thursday, May 15 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the GRCC Calkins Science building Empower Michigan will present a community forum follow up discussion titled “The Future of the Michigan Workforce.” The event is part of an ongoing series that will evaluate and compile data into a report.

Classes before 5 p.m. at GRCCs Spectrum Theater and ATC are canceled

GRAND RAPIDS, MI – Classes before 5 p.m. at Grand Rapids Community Colleges Spectrum Theater and the Applied Technology Center have been canceled because of a power outage, according to a notification sent by the college.

Muskegon Community College golfer Oliver Shepardson qualifies for NJCAA national tournament

MUSKEGON, MI — Muskegon Community College golfer Oliver Shepardson qualified for the NJCAA national tournament with a seventh-place individual finish in the two-day NJCAA Region XII Tournament that wrapped up Tuesday, May 13 in Battle Creek.

Shepardson shot 10-over for a 226 total in the three rounds of the tournament while leading his team to a fourth-place finish at Bedford Valley Golf Club behind Owens (Ohio) Community College, Grand Rapids Community College and Oakland Community College.

KCC baseball ready to make a run at regional

The Kellogg Community College baseball team recently saw its two-year reign atop the Michigan Community College Athletic Association come to an end.

… The Bruins open regional play against Grand Rapids CC (17-23, 16-10 MCCAA) today at Nichols Field, beginning at noon. The loser of that opening-round contest in the double elimination tournament will play again today at 7:30 p.m. at C.O. Brown Stadium. Play resumes Thursday at 11:30 a.m., with the championship game scheduled for Friday at noon.

Golf team heads to national tournament

Congratulations to the Raider Golfers as they finished 2nd at the Region XII Golf Tournament, qualifying the team for next week’s National Tournament at Swan Lake Resort in Plymouth Indiana. The Raiders had rounds of 296/298/292, finishing four strokes behind the winning team of Owens CC and 23 strokes ahead of third place team Oakland CC. Named to the All-Region Team were Jared Multer from Battle Creek Lakeview, Cody Shoemaker from G.R. Catholic Central, and Zach Bialik from Manistee Catholic Central. Bialik was recently named Freshman of the Year.

Kelsee Mullins joins School of Workforce Development staff

Please welcome Kelsee Mullins, ESP for Manufacturing/Manufacturing Apprenticeship, Applied Technology, Computer Information Systems, Architectural and Mechanical Design departments.

Kelsee received her Associate Degree from Grand Rapids Community College in 2011. She is currently working on finishing up her Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration with Ferris State University, at their Grand Rapids Campus. Kelsee started her GRCC career in the Music Center with Kevin Dobreff and Kathy Kolehouse and worked there for a year and a half as a part-time contingent employee. She is very grateful and honored that her first GRCC career experience was with Kevin and Kathy. Kelsee then took her current position as a full-time contingent employee and now permanent. She is excited for this opportunity and extremely excited to be working with these departments.
