Michigan Works begins consolidating offices

KENT COUNTY, Mich. (WZZM) — The local Michigan Works office is making some changes.

… The offices will no longer employ about 65 of the people that it subcontracted through Grand Rapids Community College and Ross Employment services, though most will be rehired by Michigan Works, it may be at a lower pay.

Grand Rapids schools puts pay-to-play sports on table, whittles $13.5 million deficit

GRAND RAPIDS, MI — Grand Rapids Public Schools will spend nearly $7.5 million from its cash reserves and look at implementing pay-to-play sports as part of a solution to a budget deficit that once stood at $13.5 million.

… Sam Jones Darling, who is enrolled at Grand Rapids Community College and has a sister in the district, asked about GRPS pursuing nonprofit and corporate dollars to bolster its resources. Jones Darling also asked that the administration consider reducing the six figure salaries of some top administrators.

When Dan Garbowitz decided to add a full-grain leather belt to his wardrobe, he started shopping around. The one he liked was $105, so he decided to get creative.

… “I have a master’s degree in math education and that’s my first love,” said Dan, who moonlights as an adjunct professor at Grand Rapids Community College.
