‘On the students’ backs’: MCC board establishes tuition, fees for next year

MUSKEGON, MI — Despite protests that salary increases were being placed on the “backs of students,” the Muskegon Community College Board of Trustees on Wednesday, June 18 approved a 2014-15 budget that includes tuition and class fee increases.

… College President Dale Nesbary said the tuition increases would make MCC tuition about average among community colleges in the state. He said in-district would remain $13.50 below that of Grand Rapids Community College and $345.80 below that of Grand Valley State University.

Locals eliminated from Michigan Amateur golf

Both of Battle Creek’s golfers who made it through stroke play Monday and Tuesday at the 103rd Michigan Amateur Championship at Belvedere Golf Club in Charlevoix, Kory Roberts and Matt Alderink were eliminated on the first day of match play Wednesday.

Roberts, 21, a 2012 Lakeview High grad who was all-state for the Spartans and who is now at Grand Rapids Community College, finished in a tie for 10th place during stroke play at 1-over-par 140 (72-68). The original field of 156 was then cut to 64 for match play.

 

Cookie event raises $135.50 for Student Food Pantry

Thanks to all those that supported the Kookie Kick Off Kook Off!!

The First Place Winner is Lori Cook and her Chocolate Peanut butter Enrollment booster Dream Bars

Second Place Winner is Frank Minervini and his Flourless Peanut butter Cookies

They won $25 and $10 Heritage gift certificates, respectively.

Most importantly, thanks to you, we raised a total of $135.50 for the Student Food Pantry.

Counseling center collects backpacks

The Counseling and Career Center is planning on giving 100 backpacks filled with school supplies to the students at Coit school. If you are out shopping, please pick up one of the following items and drop them off at the front desk of the Counseling Center on the third floor of the Student Center:

  • pencils
  • pencil box/bag
  • erasers
  • folders ( 2 pocket)
  • lined paper
  • crayons
  • small hand sharpener
  • glue sticks
  • also they are in desperate need of children’s movies ( used are fine) for indoor recess
