Restaurant Week expands to 12 days

(As seen on WZZM TV 13) Restaurant Week is making a return for 12 days in August.

… The week also will benefit local cooking students. Since 2010, one dollar from every Restaurant Week meal sold has gone to scholarships at Secchia Institute for Culinary Education at Grand Rapids Community College. Nearly $75,000 has been donated to the scholarship fund.

$10K grant from Primera Plastics helps students make up for lost time in summer school

Holland, Mich. — The generosity of one local business owner is allowing more than 100 Holland and West Ottawa students to afford summer school tuition this year.

… A Holland High alumnus, (Noel) Cuellar said he wasn’t the best student in school, but learned the value of education later in life.

He went to Grand Rapids Community College in his late 20s to study plastics manufacturing technology while working full time and ended up building Primera Plastics into a company with $20 million in annual sales.

Changes made to student travel policy

Changes include the following:

  • Clarified the overall purpose as instructional operations
  • Defined the four types of college sponsored travel as it relates to instruction
  • Delineated this policy from risk management policies and procedures
  • Defined the ownership of the policy
  • Refined the policy to ensure that it supports Student Life activities that require travel
  • Created procedures that centralize Study Away events
