GRCC, Davenport University sign articulation agreement

Holland, Mich. — Grand Rapids Community College and Davenport University have signed an articulation agreement that will give students who complete the medical assistant program at GRCC a seamless transfer to Davenport’s health-related programs.

David R. Fernstrum, an associate of law firm Mika, Meyers, Beckett & Jones PLC, has been elected a fellow by the College of Labor and Employment Lawyers for sustained, outstanding performance in the profession, exemplifying integrity, dedication and excellence. The College of Labor and Employment Lawyers was established in 1995 through an initiative of the Council of the Section of Labor and Employment Law of the American Bar Association. New fellows will be installed Nov. 8 in Los Angeles.

Holland, Mich. — The Sentinel chatted Tuesday with Tom Guarr, who serves as director of research and development at the Michigan State University Bioeconomy Institute, 242 Howard Ave., in Holland Township.

… Q: What’s your role in operating this facility?

A: My role is to oversee the intern program, to come up with the projects and lead the students through their projects, but help them become independent researchers and further their careers. We’ve had students from Hope, GRCC, GVSU, Michigan State, Michigan, Western — a good variety of students.

Filmmakers want to shoot holiday movie starring Ed Asner, Marion Ross in Grand Rapids

The shoulders lift, compress, and gently sag. The hands clasp. What emanates from the mouth falls somewhere between sigh and prayer. And the eyes turn up as though in earnest supplication, wondering if it’s possible to actually go back to what Christmastime in downtown Grand Rapids used to be, circa 1967.

… But it’s going to depend on West Michigan moviemakers Teresa Thome and Patrick Ziegler and a cast of characters that include Ed Asner, as well as Marion Ross, who played Richie Cunningham’s mother on Happy Days.

(Article doesn’t mention it, but Teresa Thome and Patrick Ziegler are GRCC alumni.)
