‘Grand Cocktail’ kicks off upcoming Restaurant Week Grand Rapids

GRAND RAPIDS, MI — Imagine staring at 21 cocktails and thinking, “I have to try each one!”

… As part of the event, $1 from each meal sold goes toward student scholarships to Grand Rapids Community College’s Secchia Institute for Culinary Education. In 5 years, the school is expected to bring in more than $100,000.

As their rounds unfolded while competing in the lead 18-hole threesome at Tuesday’s annual City Junior Golf Championship at Binder Park, Nate Brownlee and Matt Alderink sort of figured that the boys’ overall title was either one of theirs to claim.

… “Today, the way I was playing, 72 was a good round but not a great one,” said Brownlee, 18, who attended Kellogg Community College for a year and will now soon have a tryout for the Grand Rapids CC men’s golf squad.

… (Cody) Kater, now going into his third year at Central Michigan after previously spending time at Cincinnati and Grand Rapids Community College, has talked plenty over the past couple of years about finally feeling comfortable at a school rather than bouncing around from one place to the next.
